Chocolate Chip Cookies

This recipe was adapted from Paul Mutton's Java Cookies and is only included here for those who can't be bothered to read through the coded version, and those who prefer imperial weights. As an alternative, you could replace the vanilla with some ground mixed spice, ginger and cinnamon. Please also try Experimental Blend #3.

250g / 9 oz plain flour
200g / 7 oz butter
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
165g / 6 oz dark soft brown sugar
100g / 3 oz caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
250g / 9 oz chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to as Mark 4 / 175 degrees C / 350 degrees F.Cream the butter and sugar in a bowl. Sift in the flour and baking powder, then add the salt. Beat the egg with the vanilla, then stir into the mixture with the chocolate chips to make a sticky doughy mixture. Make about 12 blobs on one or two greased baking sheets and bake for about 10 minutes or until medium brown and firm-looking.
