Goulash a la MrTea

This recipe is an attempt at goulash, based upon research of various other recipes from around the Internet, but cooked without reference to any particular method. The measurements are estimated, since I didn't measure anything when I cooked it; they should be adjusted to fit into your pan. You can use any meat you like, I used turkey.

1 kg meat, diced
3 medium onions, chopped
4 tbsp paprika
2 tsp cayenne pepper
8 slices bacon, cut into strips
ground black pepper
sunflower oil
1/2 kg potatoes, washed and cubed
3 pints water
3 chicken stock cubes
1 tin chopped tomatoes
3 tsp thyme
2 bay leaves, each torn into 3 pieces

Put the meat, chopped onions, bacon, paprika, cayenne pepper, ground pepper and sunflower oil in a large pan. Fry the ingredients until the meat is sealed and the onions are translucent (adding half a glass of water if it starts to stick, which it almost certainly will). Put the rest of the ingredients into the pan and bring to the boil. Simmer until the potatoes are cooked through. Serve with bread.
