Marinated Chilli Beef

A spicy beef dish.

For the marinade:

4 fl oz soy sauce
3 tsp lemon juice
1 heaped tsp English mustard
1 heaped tsp ground ginger
1 heaped tsp red chilli flakes
2 oz / 50g dark soft brown sugar
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 fresh green chillies, finely chopped
ground black pepper

For the cooked dish:

800g / 10 oz stewing steak, cut into thin strips
2 onions, cut into strips
2 fresh green chillies
2 beef stock cubes
2 pints water

Combine the ingredients for the marinade in a bowl and add the beef strips. Marinade the beef for a day in the fridge, stirring a couple of times to make sure all the beef is marinating.
Put half the water in a large pan with the onions and beef stock cubes. Bring to the boil, simmer until the onions start to turn translucent, then add the beef and marinade. Use the remaining water to wash round the marinating bowl, then add that to the pan as well. Put the lid on and simmer for an hour or so. Serve with egg fried rice.
